After an eventful drawing on November 7, 2022, Powerball’s record jackpot of $2.04 Billion was won by a single ticket holder from Altadena, California.
This Powerball winner becomes California’s very first lottery-made billionaire!
Carolyn Becker, communications director for the California State Lottery, declared:
“We’re talking about a life-changing amount of money, and I don’t think that’s hyperbole in this case,”
What’s more? California is one of nine states that exempt winners from paying state taxes on their lottery winnings.
Drew Svitko, Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director & Powerball Group Chair said:
“Congratulations, to the lucky ticket holder in California and the millions of other Powerball players who won other prizes in the drawing. On behalf of participating lotteries, I would like to thank our players who joined us on this historic jackpot run. A portion of every Powerball ticket purchased will stay in your state to support your local communities.”
The draw attracted millions of players that had to wait a little longer than usual before being able to check the Powerball results. Indeed, due to one participating lottery needing additional time to process its sales, the Powerball drawing was slightly delayed.
Now, everyone is curious about the United State’ newest billionaire and wonders when he or she will come forward but the lucky winner has one year to claim the biggest prize the lottery world has ever seen.
